March 2022- Boosting the Immune System

Good morning everyone and happy March!

With the changeable weather and the reopening of the world after Covid restrictions, I thought this month we could discuss BOOSTING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEMS. What are the key elements to maintaining a healthy immune system?


1. Eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and minimise your intake of processed foods

3. Exercise regularly

4. Maintain a healthy weight

6. Follow good hygiene practices (including keeping nails clean)

7. Avoid smoking

8. Limit your alcohol intake


STRESS:

Let's look at number 5- REDUCE STRESS. What is stress? The NHS describes stress as 'the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure'. Stress produces physical and mental symptoms, but affects people differently. Stress can harm our mental and physical health and wellbeing so finding a way to reduce and live with stress is really worth time and effort.


SELF HELP:


A healthy lifestyle helps us to manage stress including, eating a healthy diet rich in fruit and vegetables, sleeping well, and exercising regularly. These elements all work towards coping with life's demands. Other ways of dealing with stress can be found here, including talking to friends, loved ones or professionals, managing our time, self care, and relaxation. Another HUGE shout out for mindfulness and breathing exercises here! Taking just a few minutes each day to work on this reaps huge rewards.

By working on the key areas of the body that can get out of balance with our busy stressful lifestyles, the treatment can help reduce stress, balance the body, promote sleep, and therefore encourage a healthy immune system.
